Having grown up in South Miami, this park holds so much meaning for me and has long been a pivotal part of the community. It’s seen countless beach days, birthday parties, picnics, and romantic strolls over the years. The experience begins with the dreamy drive down Old Cutler Road, which is tucked away from the chaos and crowds of tourists. Large oak trees draped in moss line the street, paired with stunning mansions on either side, instantly setting the tone.

When you turn onto the park road, you’re greeted with three beautiful photo spot options. The furthest leads you to the beach, followed by the marina, and closest to the entrance, the casita. If you park in the first lot and walk past the casita (often busy with weddings and events) you’ll find yourself stepping into a lush green paradise. Towering trees with twisting branches surround you as sunlight glimmers through the leaves, showcasing a side of Florida that’s often overshadowed by its beaches.

I often bring families and couples here for sessions, not only because of the deep nostalgia it holds for me as a local, but because the light here is truly unmatched. No matter the time of day, the oak forest offers soft, flattering light that feels both magical and timeless—making it the perfect backdrop for meaningful moments.

This was A’s second time working with me, the first being a family session on the beach. This time, she wanted to capture her expanding family in a way that felt soft, intimate, and a little bit magical. For her maternity session, A envisioned a dreamy forest vibe—and Matheson Hammock Park delivered perfectly.

We wandered through the oak-filled paths, surrounded by filtered light and lush greenery, and dreamy doesn’t even begin to describe it.

While I usually share wedding content, sessions like this are such a meaningful part of my work.
